Gem-Session No.1 !

During last years  Zengems just popped up in Zentangle-land and they are still immensly popular. So today, we draw Gems. I now that a lot of Tangler love drawing those Zengems and they really look beautiful, but I have to admit, I didn’t had the need so far to draw gems. I guess I don’t want to think to much about light and shadow, which you really have to if those gems look realistic and shiny. But today I tried, and I think they do look like gems, but still, I am not a huge fan of drawing gems. I guess I will rather admire gems by other tanglers:)

Handlettering,  is extremely popular at the moment. Handlettering goes very well in combination with Zentangle. So I chose a script-font and tried to reproduce by hand and combine it with Zentangle.  I used a Zendala tile, because I wanted the lettering to be like a spiral, which was pretty challenging. In the first Moment, I didn’f  know what to think about my finished Zendala, it seemed a little bit to crowded for my eyes, almost a little messy. But now I really love it!

Zentangle goes triangular!

Brand-new is Zentangle inc.’s 3Z tiles, which they introduced at the ZenAgain Worskhop last year. So today’s prompt is to tangle away on a 3Z tile. Which is pretty good for my, because so far I didn’t try out the 3Z’s. Now I have a reason to tangle my first triangular tiles.  I just started in the middle and then I was in the flow. It is really great to tangle on those 3Z’s.

…BOMB

Today  it is about glitter and glamour. I used some embossing powder so make the tangle Cyme sparkle. Well, not only my tangle sparkles, but my hands, my face, the dogs…actually everything I touched after adding glitter to my tangle. I love glitter… I am a princess now 😉

Todays prompt is to first to find some stuff around the house and arrange it on the tile. Than trace the shapes with pencil onto the tile and so we have the string! And tangle! I gathered my stuff in the kitchen. A piece from my „kitchen aid“, a spaghetti-fork, a cookie-cutter in starshape und the handle of a fork. So I got an interessting string:)

Today I had a really peaceful and calming tangle evening, enjoying every deliberate stroke and I really went out of my comfort zone and passed the border! Meaning I stuck with the „elegance of limit“ and just ignored the „border“ of the string.

here you can see  my string, you probably can see where I passed the border and where I stayed with the string! I made a wonderful experience tonight with that tile!

Todays challenge is to create a tile with tangles that are new to me.

So I tried for the first time „Loop“ by Amelie Liao, CZT, „Diamond Drops“ by Janice Sherlock and „Fricle“ by Julie Evans, CZT. And if you look a little bit closer, you can see were I wasn’t concentrated drawing „Loop“ 😉

Black Orange.

The prompt for today is to make a duo-colored Zentangle drawing. I decided to stick with black and added some orange in the background. The whole tile went out a little bit too wild and crowded:) But that’s okay, learning by doing! And I had fun tangeling.

… Tracy Verdugo.

Today we are invited to let ourself inspires by artist we admire and let his or her style shine through in the Zentangle drawing. Tracy Verdugo is a mixed media artis I really admire, I love the way she uses the colors and I love her attitude. I already made a mini online class from her and hat a lot of fun. One thing I mostly do when I paint is first of all painting the background, just making marks and layers with all different kind of brushes, paints and all kind of materials that I can use to put paint on. It is a totally intuitiv and unplanned process. When I think I am done with this I am looking what the background gives me for opportunities to go on painting, sometimes I only take small parts out of that whole background piece. And that is what I did here, I painted a big sheet of watercolorpaper and then I cuted it into small pieces and started to tangle on it. I had a great quality time doing this!

Tombow Penbrushes are dancing the „Diva Dance“

Today I was experimenting with one of my three Tombow Dual Penbrushes. Looking how they act with water in different ways. Me and my Tombow, we had a great time together dancing the Diva Dance. I loved this tangle from the very first moment I saw it. So I had not to think about what tangle to use for a Monotangle.

That’s it:)

„UMT – Orbs-la-Dee by Anneke van Dam“

like every first Monday of the month the Weekly Diva Challenge is a Use My Tangle Challenge – this month’s  Orbs-la-Dee by Anneke van Dam, and you can see the step outs here .

It feels like the last challenge has been a long time ago and I am very happy that the Diva is back from christmas holidays I had a great time tangling Orbs-la-Dee, it is a fun an very relaxing tangle, I didn’t know this tangle so far, and I am happy to know now.

So have a nice weekend everyone and thanks for visiting my blog, I appreciate that so much.

… is the new black.

The graphite can be an important part of the composition and more than just shading. So we are asked to try this today in our Zentangle drawing. Well, I guess I could have added more graphite, because it still looks more like shadings, I really tried hard but that is all graphite I could do;)

Straightforward

well not really. It was not so easy as it sounded – for me.

The challenge for today drawing a string only using straight lines. What kind of tangles is up to us, organic- or gridtangles or everything else.

There are many crooked lines and one straight line. Which is the line of truth? Why the straight line? Truth is always the shortest distance between two points. Sun Myung Moon

I did a very straight string and then cose kind of a mix between straight and border-tangles and also organic-tangles.

Tangled snowflakes for today.

Just a really short post. This is a snowflake from the selection of snowflake photographs taken by Wilson Bentley (1865–1931) tangled by a very tired tangler – me;)

Mandala – the Zentangle way

I love drawing Zandalas. There are many possibilties, you can either draw just freehand without a string, which I mostly do, or you can create a string to create a structured Zendala. For this Zendala I used one of the beautiful strings created  by Erin Koetz Olson for the Zendala Dare Challenges. I already tangled this Zendala just before christmas as an gift for my parents-in-law as a part of a dream catcher I created.

Thinking outside of the box …

or… maybe think of tangling on the box? Yes! Todays prompt is to tangle a Zentangle Inspired Art Object. Great challenge to try my new Sizzix Big Shot Machine, which I got from my mom for christmas. I got me a die-cut for pillow boxes from „kesi‘ art“ – which has really gorgeous products. So I die-cutted this cute pillow box, added some fun und tangled on it…and tada… this is my ZIA Object for today!
