Marasu als Monotangle – eine wunderbare Idee von Alicia G. Rey von mind&tangle. Marasu ist so ein wundervolles Muster, dass ich ganz vielfältig variieren lässt.

Aber wie es manchmal so ist auf die „guten“ Tage folgen gerne auch mal „schlechte“ Tage. Während ich an Tag 21 noch ganz euphorisch über den Prozess und mein Zentangle Kunstwerk, das dem Prozess mühelos entsprungen ist philosophiert habe, so hatte ich diesmal arge Schwierigkeiten mich zu fokussieren und zu entspannen.

Die Tangle-Bedingungen waren sehr ähnlich, es war schon recht spät am Abend ich war müde und ich hab es mir gemütlich in meinen grossen Sessel gemacht. Nur diesmal hat die Müdigkeit mich eher sehr gehemmt, ich konnte mich nicht konzentrieren, zur Ruhe kommen auch nicht und keine einigermaßen bequeme Sitz-und Tangle Position finden.

Wobei, das Tangeln im Sessel mit Buch auf den Knien – oft noch ein Hund, manchmal sogar 2 mit dazugequetscht – und alles etwas verrenkt und verrückt im allgemeinen nicht optimal ist, aber ich finde es irgendwie gemütlich, trotz der verdrehten Körperteile.

So oder so wollte sich kein Zentangle-Flow einstellen. Aber wie sage ich gerne in meinen Zentangle-Basis-Kursen „kein Bedauern“, manchmal ist das so, da fliesst es einfach nicht , aber es gibt wieder einen neuen Tag, ein neues Zentangle Kunstwerk, also schätze auch diese Erfahrung wert. Nur wenn es auch mal schlechte Tage gibt, wissen wir wie sich gute Tage anfühlen. Alles ein Zusammenspiel der Gegensätze.

Was ist passiert? Ein organisches Zentangle-Kunstwerk, dass ich im Moment zu einem meiner Lieblingskunstwerke erkoren habe.

Es ist einfach so aus mir herausgeflossen und das abends um 21.30 Uhr nach einem langen Arbeitstag. Wenn ich darüber nachdenke ist es jetzt schon mehrmals passiert, dass die schönsten Kacheln entstanden sind nach einem langen Tag an dem ich bereits erschöpft und müde war.

Möglicherweise ist das mein persönliches Geheimrezept für das Tangeln von Kunstwerken die mich selbst so positiv überraschen. Mein Kopf muss schon so müde sein, dass er bereits schläft und keinen rationalen Gedanken mehr fassen kann. Der Körper ist gerade noch so wach, dass er den Stift halten und auch führen kann. Nur die Seele und die Intuition sind noch im Besitz ihrer vollen Kräfte.

Wobei es natürlich auch kein Konzept ist sich täglich komplett zu verausgaben, um dann viel zu spät abends in einer Halbtrance zu tangeln.

In diesem Fall hat es sich aber gelohnt und diese Kachel hat jetzt ihrem Platz auf der ersten Seite meines Zentangle Journals.

Diva Duotangle Challenge

Diese Woche in der Weekly Diva Challenge #377 ist es wieder einmal an der Zeit für ein Duotangle – Fengle und Pokeroot. Beides Muster die ich gerne und oft benutze.

Fengle, ein offizielles Zentangle Muster, mit so wundervollen Variationsmöglichkeiten, in Form und Verzierung. Es kann rund und gleichmässig sein, aber auch ein, zwei oder mehr sehr langgezogene Fengle-Ärmchen haben und so sich austrecken. Pokeroot, ebenfalls ein offizielles Muster ist ein sehr anpassungsfähiges Muster, dass sich überall lang schlängeln kann mit seinen kleinen runden kirsch- oder pilzähnlichen (ich sehe das je nach Jahreszeit unterschiedlich) Köpfchen.

Nun wächst Pookeroot hinter, über und durch Fengle hindurch. Fengle selber habe ich etwas variiert in dem ich als Verzierung das Muster Paradox in jedem Fengle-Arm getangelt habe. Die vielen vielen Linien als schöner Kontrast zu den runden Pokeroot-Köpfchen. Dann noch ein paar schwarze Flächen als weiterer Kontrast und als Sahnehäubchen die zarten mit grauem Fineliner getangleten Pokeroots die zusätzlich vom Rand reinwachsen. Molly Hollybaugh nannte sie auf Instagram „Whispers“ ein wirklich passende und schöne Bezeichnung für die zarten und flüsternde Pookeroots.

Weekly Challenge #375: „UMT – Burtz by Fabienne Blumberg

Wie jeden ersten Montag im Monat der wöchentlichen Diva Challenge  „Use my Tangle“! Diesen Monat das Tangle „Burtz“ von Fabienne Blumberg. Wie ich finde ein ganz entzückendes Tangle, das wirklich einfach zu zeichnen ist. Genau das Richtige für einen entspannten Tangelabend.

Diese Kachel ist so skurriel geworden. Ich liebe alles was etwas skurriel und etwas sonderbar ist, aber ich muss gestehen, diese Kachel hatte wirklich ihre hässlichen Momente und ich hatte durchaus zwischendurch das Gefühl, lieber etwas anderes zu machen, als diese Kachel zu beenden. Aber so wie ich meine Teilnehmer in meinen Kursen ermutige nicht zu urteilen oder ergebnisorientiert zu denken, sondern den Prozess zu geniessen, habe ich mich dann auch ermuntert weiterzutangeln.

Ihr denkt jetzt sicher, jetzt kommt das Happy End – am Ende war ich total begeistert von meinem Kunstwerk, seiner Schönheit und Einzigartigkeit. Nun ja! Einzigartig: definitiv. Begeistert: nein, nicht wirklich. Schön: auf keinen Fall! Aber entspannt war ich trotzdem und eine schöne Zeit hatte ich ebenso.

Und um meine Wertschätzung zu zeigen, hat die kleine skurielle Kachel noch „etwas“ Farbe bekommen. Oder auch etwas mehr. Und voilá: psychodelisches Burtz!

Weekly Diva Challenge #374

In dieser Woche der Diva Challange #374 tauchen wir einen ganz klein wenig in Mixed Media ein. Man nehme zwei Kacheln, auf die eine Kachel kommt ein schöner Klecks mit Farbe, ich habe mich für Acryltinte von Daler-Rowney entschieden, so schön flüssig mit die einen ordentlichen Klecks. Ausserdem ist sie wasserfest, das lässt mir noch ein wenig mehr Spielraum für weitere mögliche Experimente. Sobald die Farbe die Kachel bekleckert hat kommt die zweite Kacheln sandwich-mäßig einfach draufgedrückt. Kacheln wieder trennen, trocknen lassen oder für Ungeduldige fönen und dann geht’s los mit Tangeln.

Meinen herbstlichen in einem „Rote Erde“- Ton leuchtenden Klecks habe ich mit „Aloha“ von CZT Suzanne Fluhr betangelt. Ein Muster, das durch seine starken Konturen einen schönen Kontrast zu den sehr feinen Linien der anderen Muster bildet und auch einen Ton-in-Ton Tanglen gut verträgt, denn statt mit schwarz habe ich mit einem braunen Fineliner getangelt. Dann noch eine schöne Aura mit weissen Gelstift und schon leuchtet Aloha wie ein exotisches Herbstblatt auf roter Erde.

Anschliessend habe ich den unbefleckten Teil der Kachel mit organischen Mustern verziert, wie CZT Tina Hunzikers African Artist und Olluan , CZT Kelley Kellys Meringue, und Zentangles Klassiker Tipple und Printemps. Nun schien mir Aloha aber ein wenig einsam auf roter Erde und so gesellen sich noch eine Variante von Echiosm und Betweed dazu.

Den letzten Schliff hat die Kachel dann erhalten, indem ich die „verweißten“ Flächen schwarz gemalt habe, um noch mehr Kontrast zu erzeugen. Noch ein wenig schattiert, in diesem Fall mit einem braunen Brushpen und fertig ist die Splotch-Tastic-Kachel.

Striping – Monotangle

Good Morning, I am a little late with my post for the Weekly Diva Challenge #336, the weather was so sunny this weekend, so I decided to spend my time outside in nature. Well,  but at least I tangled. This week we were challenged to do a monotangle,  this means using only one tangle on the tile. The featured tangle is one of the official tangles from Zentangle HQ called Striping. I use Striping once in a while in my classes but I have to admit, I never use it in my own tiles, so great to use it as a monotangle. I already admired Margaret Bremner’s  Striping with a twist last year, so I decided to give it a try! It wasn’t that difficult as I thought and so I had a lot of fun tangling and twisting Striping, so I guess Striping will find its way also in my tiles now:)

So again, what an inspiring challenge!

„Fragment D-1“

A Guest Post from Marguerite Samama CZT from Netherlands ( www.happytangling.com ). I already had the pleasure to meet Marguerite at a CZT Workshop hosted by Ellen Gozeling in the Netherlands – where I had a great time! So, this weeks challenge # 329 has everything to do with the Fragment D- 1 from the Primer by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

I love the idea how those fragment can be used, but I have to admit I sometimes use one of them as a border, but I haven’t really played with them in all their possibilities. But I guess I really should, since I love the geometry in tangling.

So my Tile is a mixture between the challenge #328 from last week, using Suzanne Fluhr‘ s lovely tangle „Aloah“ and the Fragment D-1. The reason is, I started the tile with Aloha last Saturday. But then was disturbed and didn’t finish. So using D-1 as a background for my Aloha-Tile seemed a great idea to me. Especially, because I love the contrast between floral and organic tangles and geometric pattern. Now Aloha is dancing on Fragment D-1, migth be a whimsical film title;) Thank you, Marguerite, for your post with the lovely pictures, I certainly I fell in love with your sweet dog:)

Weekly Challenge #319: „BEad INSPIRED“

This weeks Challenge #319 ist about the medicine program Beads of Courage, which helps kids with their story of chronic or life threatinig illnesses. The kids get those colored beads every time they have to go through a procedure or appointment or other special circumstances, so the beads tell their story of their medical journey. Each color of the beads stands for a different treatment or circumstance.

Laura „The Diva“ organized 5 years ago the first volunteer 5K Color Fun Run to support the programm and to raise money for the Beads of Courage programming in Saskatchewan. This year she ran the run with her whole family.

So, this week’s challenge is to BEad INSPIRED by Beads of Courage!  By the Color Run, or by whatever gives us Courage.

Laura has my full admiration, for all this things she does, like this Color Run, for her son and all the other kids that are in similar situations. So I dedicate my beads of courage to Laura, the Color Run and the whole program.

And because I couldn’t stopp tangling and didn‘t want to be limit by my tile 😉 I decided to tangle in my artjournal.

Weekly Challenge #316: String Theory – Stripes!

this weeks challenge #316 – we were asked to create our string using stripes with varying widths, without having to be uniform or even! anything is possible as long as it’s stripes. I decided to tangle on a zendala which I colored with watercolors before I draw my strings. I had a great time tangeling those stripes and as you can see, there are lots of stripes, even stripes in stripes, I couldn’t stopp doing those lines:)

2 Zentangle Basic Classes at L-Beach Festival

Last weekend I was invited to give two  Zentangle Basic Classes at a huge Festival at the Baltic Sea! It was a wonderful experience and there were so many ladies who wanted to take this classes. We had to get more and more tables in that room until there where no more space!

I had a great time and I guess everybody else had, too! The ladies were so creative, they tangled with me the basic patterns and couldn’t stopp enhancing them, with some ideas I gave them and lots of their own ideas. Actually the class was supposed to take 90 minutes, but because they had so many own ideas on their tangles we spend almost 3 hours tangling. That ist why I have not all tiles in my first mosaic, some ladies had to go pretty fast to dinner:)

The next day some ladies came back and took the class again:) That is why I made two different Basic classes. Friday Zentangle Basics „geometric“, whith static, rain, hollibaugh and cubine and on Staturday Basics „organic“ with crescent moon, mysteria, bales and pokeroot. One funny thing that happend to me, on Friday’s geometric tangle class I planned so draw the „Z“ string and for the organic class some rounded „e“ string. Well, I was talking about string at my geometric class and -tada – I drew the „e“ string I had planned for the organic class. So, when I told my students, that any string would work, I had to smile and somehow to sweat a little bit more. It is one thing to be unplanned at the kitchen table, than in a prepared class with 30 people. But I love those „oops“ they really help to get more and more confindence in teaching!:) And the end of my class I certainly told the ladies about my  unplanned string, I think that is always a great chance to really show the attendees that it works! So thanks to all the creative ladies for that great time.

Weekly Challenge #312: „Coffee, Tea, or Me!“

I can’t believe I skipped so many challenges this year, some of them I tangled but didn’t post them. 2017 seems to be more like an offline und unplugged year for me:)

But since it is really April weather today and I am not digging in the garden, I decided to share my tile I tangled yesterday evening. This week’s challenge # 312 is to spill, dripp, blott some liquid on the tile like coffee, tea, wine, watery paint or like I did pomegranate. I really love to spill something liquid on my tile and then tangle, it helps like a string, and it is always such a surprise. I used some juice of a pomegranate which I made some vinaigrette from for the salad yesterday. I love that rich color and I was really surprised how this deep red color turned into a more purple color after drying on the tile. 

I started with the tangle „Vano“ from Hanneke Sieben, which I tangled for the first time and definitely not for the last, and then I couldn’t stopp going in circles. I remember that actually don’t love tangling circles at all, but I guess that is something really special in tangling, for some reason things can change suddenly. So I am surprised with my tile but also happy:)

So I will tangle on now!

Hefty Hack with tne new Official Tangle: Drawings“

It’s the Hefty Hack – technique! Materials you need: watersoluble markers like Tombows, a brush and water and also a plastic bag.

Now scribble some color on the plastic bag. Wet parts of your paper with your brush and then place the bag on the water with the color faced down. The colors react with the water. Now the bag can be lifted up and you have your gorgeous watercolor background. Let it completely dry and then tangle.

I used the new Tangle „Drawings“, which was introduced at last years ZenAgain workshop, because on this weeks challenge #299 the Diva asked us to use the new official tangle „Drawings“. You can see the stepouts here.

So I combined the Zenuari’s prompt with the diva’s challenge. The weird thing, if I wouldn’t know that I tangled this, I would believe someone else did, it is totally not the style I am used to tangle and I am not sure if I like it:) But however – isn’t that that the awesome thing about Zentangle – you never no the outcome – and sometimes it really surprises me. Moreover, what will it look like to me in a couple of weeks or month? Isn’t that absolutely fantastic.

„UMT – Orbs-la-Dee by Anneke van Dam“

like every first Monday of the month the Weekly Diva Challenge is a Use My Tangle Challenge – this month’s  Orbs-la-Dee by Anneke van Dam, and you can see the step outs here .

It feels like the last challenge has been a long time ago and I am very happy that the Diva is back from christmas holidays I had a great time tangling Orbs-la-Dee, it is a fun an very relaxing tangle, I didn’t know this tangle so far, and I am happy to know now.

Weekly Challenge #294: Reticula/Fragment Beginning

This week’s challenge #294 is to draw a reticulum. It is a great challenge for me, because even though I know how to use Reticula and Fragments, I never use it for my Zentangle Art. But Laura Harms challenged us this week to do so. So I did.

I prepared my tiles with an old page of a book that was published in 1955 – From the Earth to the Moon, a 1865 novel by Jule Vernes, some gesso and brusho pigments. Somehow it felt like it fits good to the Recticula. So what are Reticula? Reticulum ( pl. Reticula) is a fine network or netlike structure. A Reticulum is a comprising term for all the zentangle „grids“ not just the square grid like the checkerboard. The possibilities are endless.

In the Zentangle’s Primer Book the fragement notation are shown in rows by numbers and letters.

k4 First I played with the K4 fragment, which I mirrored each one next to the other by rotating my tile. It took me a lot of concentration.

But I was so excited by the outcome and had so much fun that I decided to try another one.

w6So I picked W6 and did the same mirroring.

 

Here it comes – the second Reticula-Tile.

I am so happy I got started with Recticula and Frangements, so thank you Laura Harms for pushing this in your Diva Challenge, I am looking foreward for more…this is the beginning:)

And a little late my tile on the last weeks challenge #293 „Keeko, you know!“, which I didn’t skip, but I was offline on the weekend, so I could’t post. Offline not because of technical problems, but offline because of being outside all days and having the need to be media-free! But not tangle-free:)

The tile I used was a leftover from this month Travelling Tangles Project „Ooops I spilled my drink“. So this is a big coffee stain paired with a red wine stain and Keeko!

Weekly Challenge #292: „UMT – EAXY by Nadine Roller, CZT

Only a short post today. First of all, we just have to pretend it is still sunday evening, otherwise it is not THIS weeks challenge anymore;) So this weeks challenge # 292 is a Use My Tangle Challenge  like the first Monday of every month.

This time we were ask to use a Tangle which is designed by Nadine Roller, also a CZT from Germany. You can find the step outs for EAXY here.

Actually it is really an easy tangle with only a few steps, but still it really needs a lot of concentration. I love it! It is so beautilful and geometric – a great contrast to organic tangles and patterns. So it is a great tangle to create some drama in your tile. I used an older tile, where I already had dropped some color on, but then didn’t tangle on it. I decided to use this blur of color like a string. So I started with EAXY in the middle and afterwards I framed it with some organic tangles like Flux, Printemps, Ornamato and Twenty-One.

There are always some tangles and pattern I also like use to in my mixed media artworks. Eaxy will definitively one of them. So tanks to Nadine Roller for deconstructing this beautiful pattern and Laura Harms for choosing it for the UMT Challenge!

 Weekly Challenge #291: „Happy Halloween!“

Monday was Halloween! Okay, here in Germany it is getting more popular, but not nearly as it is in US. Since we live pretty alone in the countrysides, there were no kids at our door asking for „trick or treat“. Well, maybe also because we have instead of a bell at our gate three big dogs always happy about visitors, but showing this with barking and jumping – not everybody might understand that right:)

So this week’s challenge # 291 is to create a Halloween themed tile. I didn’t read the challenge exact enough to know what the challenge is all about. So I missed the part to tangle on a black tile. So I just went with the Halloween theme, but of course when I realized my faux pas I tangled another one on a black tile.

The first tile I did a spider (string:)). A spider with its prey „Purk“. I don’t know if I ever can tangle Purk again without thinking that there might something cocooned. I really like spiders, I love there webs – a stunning creation.

The spider as an „power animal“ in the Neoshamanism is a symbol for creativity and the weaver of fate, she is the totemic symbol of the Mother, strength and gentleness combined.

She teaches us balance between the past and the future, physical and spirit, male and female. She awakens creative sensibilities and reminds us that the past is always interwoven with the future.  Her body is shaped like an eight, symbolizing infinite possibilities of creation and she has eight legs, which represent the 4 winds of change and the 4 directions of the medicine wheel.

The spider weaves her beautifully engineered web with the extraordinary capability of creating. We weave our reality, the spider shows us the gift of creation, that we have the power to create what happens in our lives. Having the power to weave our own web, means we have the power to make a positive and happy life.

By giving the spider careful thought and consideration, we can see that we are connected to all life, and that there is no past and no future, only the infinite now. The spider awakes our intuitive creative senses and encourage us to design the fabric of our lives from our souls original intention.

Spider’s message is that you are an infinite being who will continue to weave patterns of life and living throughout time.

Isn’t this nice to think of, when you see a spider next time? However it is worth to have a closer look at her amazing web.

After I finished my Spider tile, I did another black Halloween tile, a bloody one! And even though I mostly avoid tangling on black tiles I had really fun doing it. Maybe I should get my black tile tangled more often.

So here come the gazing „Borbz“ eyes;)
